Overview

To ensure a harmonious and disciplined learning environment, Salem Kongunadu Arts and Science College has laid down a set of rules and regulations that all students and parents are expected to follow. These guidelines promote academic excellence, personal responsibility, and mutual respect within the campus community.

General Rules

  • Students must maintain decorum, discipline, and punctuality at all times within the college campus.

  • All students should carry their identity card while inside the campus and present it when required.

  • Students must show respect to teachers, staff, and fellow students and refrain from any act that affects the dignity of the institution.

  • Mobile phones should be kept in silent mode and used only for academic purposes with staff permission.

  • Smoking, use of drugs, alcohol, or possession of prohibited substances is strictly banned inside and around the college premises.

  • Students should handle college property, furniture, and equipment with care. Any damage will be recovered from those responsible.

  • Loitering, unnecessary gatherings, or disturbance during class hours are not permitted.

  • Students must maintain cleanliness in classrooms, corridors, laboratories, and restrooms.

  • Any political, religious, or unauthorized activity inside the campus is strictly prohibited.

  • Students must comply with all academic and administrative instructions issued by the Principal and staff.

Code of Conduct for Students

  • Students must attend classes regularly and on time.

  • They should show courtesy, honesty, and good manners in speech and behavior.

  • Students must not indulge in ragging, harassment, or discrimination of any kind.

  • Participation in academic, cultural, and sports events is encouraged, but prior permission must be obtained for any external program.

  • Students should refrain from posting or circulating negative content about the college or staff on social media.

  • Misconduct inside or outside the campus may lead to disciplinary action or suspension.

Guidelines for Parents

  • Parents and guardians are partners in the educational process and are expected to cooperate with the college in ensuring their ward’s progress and discipline.

  • They must attend Parent–Teacher Meetings (PTMs) whenever scheduled to review their ward’s performance and attendance.

  • Parents should ensure punctuality, attendance, and timely fee payment of their children.

  • Any change in address or contact number must be immediately updated in the college records.

  • Parents are advised to encourage students to participate in co-curricular and extension activities.

  • In case of continuous absenteeism or poor performance, parents will be notified by the department concerned.

Attendance & Leave Policy

  • As per Periyar University regulations, students must maintain a minimum of 75% attendance in each semester to appear for the end-semester examinations.

  • Attendance is recorded for every lecture, practical, and tutorial.

  • Shortage of attendance may lead to loss of eligibility to sit for exams and may require repetition of the semester.

  • Leave of absence must be applied for in advance and in writing, duly signed by the student and parent.

  • Medical leave should be supported with a valid medical certificate submitted to the class tutor immediately after returning to college.

  • Continuous absence without permission for more than 10 consecutive working days may result in removal from the rolls.

Dress Code

  • Students must wear neat, modest, and formal attire appropriate for an academic environment.

  • Boys are expected to wear formal shirts and trousers, while girls should wear churidar/salwar kameez with dupatta or saree.

  • T-shirts, jeans with cuts, sleeveless tops, shorts, and flashy accessories are not permitted inside the campus.

  • Lab coats must be worn during practical sessions wherever required.

  • ID cards should be worn visibly at all times within the college premises.

Withdrawal & Transfer Policy

  • A student seeking Transfer Certificate (TC) must submit a written request along with clearance from all departments (library, lab, hostel, office, etc.).

  • The TC and Conduct Certificate will be issued only after settling all dues to the college.

  • If a student wishes to discontinue during the academic year, they are required to pay the fees for the full year.

  • All certificates submitted during admission will be returned only after the official withdrawal process is completed.

  • Students dismissed on disciplinary grounds are not entitled to receive any fee refund.

Examination & Evaluation Rules

  • Students must adhere strictly to the exam schedule, seating arrangements, and conduct code during internal and university examinations.

  • Copying, impersonation, or malpractice during examinations will result in strict disciplinary action.

  • Continuous internal assessment marks are based on attendance, assignments, tests, and class performance.

  • University examination results will be displayed on the official notice board and college website.

Discipline & Grievance Redressal

  • A Discipline Committee monitors student behavior and enforces college regulations.

  • A Grievance Redressal Cell is available for students to voice academic or personal concerns in a confidential manner.

  • Students are encouraged to maintain a positive, respectful, and cooperative attitude in all interactions.

General Conduct Expectations

  • Be punctual, honest, and responsible in all academic and extracurricular activities.

  • Respect college property, staff, and peers.

  • Practice eco-friendly habits — avoid plastic, save energy, and keep the campus clean.

  • Represent the college with pride, dignity, and discipline both on and off campus.
