The Department of English at Salem Kongunadu Arts and Science College is a vibrant academic hub that nurtures creativity, critical thinking, and communication excellence. About the Course
The Bachelor of Arts in English (B.A. English) is a three-year undergraduate programme designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of English language, literature, and communication. The course blends literary studies with practical communication training, preparing students for diverse career opportunities in education, media, writing, and corporate sectors.
Students explore literary movements, genres, authors, and critical theories while also gaining practical skills in writing, presentation, and soft skills. The programme integrates classical and modern works, British, American, Indian, and World Literature, alongside linguistics and language-based courses.

About the Lab
The Language and Communication Lab attached to the Department of English is equipped with audio-visual learning tools, language software, and multimedia resources. It provides hands-on training in phonetics, pronunciation, listening comprehension, and interactive communication. The lab also helps students improve their accent, vocabulary, and professional presentation skills, preparing them for interviews and public speaking engagements.
Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates should have passed Higher Secondary (10+2) or equivalent examination from a recognized board.
- Preference will be given to students with English as one of the main subjects at the higher secondary level.
- Admission will be as per Periyar University and Tamil Nadu Government norms.
