The Department of Physics at Salem Kongunadu Arts and Science College is a center of scientific curiosity and innovation. About the Course
The Bachelor of Science in Physics (B.Sc. Physics) is a three-year undergraduate degree programme designed to help students explore the principles that govern matter, energy, and their interactions. The course covers both classical and modern physics and introduces students to the applications of physics in electronics, materials science, energy systems, and communication technologies.
Through a balanced combination of theory and experiments, the programme nurtures analytical and problem-solving skills. It serves as a foundation for careers in research, teaching, engineering, and technology-based industries.

About the Lab
The Physics Laboratory is one of the department’s major strengths, equipped with advanced instruments for optics, electronics, mechanics, and thermal experiments. Students gain hands-on experience through experiments involving spectrometers, CROs, laser setups, and digital measuring instruments.
The lab provides an environment conducive to discovery and innovation, allowing students to design experiments, verify theories, and explore physical phenomena with precision and confidence.
Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates must have passed Higher Secondary (10+2) or equivalent examination from a recognized board.
- Must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as major subjects at the Higher Secondary level.
- Admission is as per Periyar University and Government of Tamil Nadu norms.
